County Legislator Reed Cleland represents Legislative District 10, which encompasses most of the Village and Town of Homer. He was elected to his first four-year term in the Cortland County Legislature in November 2023.
As a County Legislator, Reed serves on the Agriculture, Planning, & Environment (A.P.E.) Committee and the Finance & Administration Committee. He also represents the County Legislature on the Cortland County Youth Advisory Board and the Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board.
Outside of his legislative duties, Reed is a nonprofit management professional working in transportation demand management - developing affordable and sustainable modes of transportation in underserved communities throughout Central New York and the Southern Tier.
Reed is highly active in his community and believes strongly in the ethos of the Social Gospel. He volunteers with and sits on the governance boards of several local nonprofit organizations, including the Cortland ReUse Center and Cortland Repertory Theatre. He has worked as a Substitute Teacher in several of Cortland County's school districts and OCM BOCES. In his personal life, Reed enjoys long walks with his dogs around the Village of Homer and practicing martial arts.
Reed holds a Master's in Public Administration (M.P.A.) concentrating in National & International Security Policy, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) in Security Studies, from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Theater from Colgate University (Class of 2022). Reed is a lifelong resident of the Village of Homer and graduated from the Homer Central School District (Class of 2018).
